How often are people interviewed for the survey and who is interviewed?

The survey is designed to be representative of the UK population. Interviewers make yearly visits to the more than 40,000 households taking part in the survey. The original sample members are interviewed together with any new household members wherever they move within Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The survey is also designed to boost the sampling of ethnic minorities that would otherwise be hard to study. Finally, the survey incorporates the remaining households from the BHPS survey initiated in 1991. For further information: UKHLS User Guide
